Frequently Asked Questions

While a majority are concerned about their health and well-being, many find it difficult to fit "me time" into their busy schedules.

If you are new to massage therapy, I understand that you might have some questions:

Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with every day and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions.

A professional massage will help you find relief from muscular tension and pain, increase your range of motion, improve posture and reduce mental stress.

Massage is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Massage does not have to hurt to help. After a Remedial massage there may be slight pain in stretching or having tight or tensed muscle worked on, but relaxation is really the key.

Prior to your massage treatment we will discuss your reason for seeking a Remedial massage, your areas of tension and discuss how long you have been affected. I will ask you questions regarding your current condition and your health history, a physical assessment will be conducted in order to provide an effective treatment plan, which seeks to treat the original biomechanical dysfunction, as well as the symptoms.

The health history form is important as I need to know if you have any medical conditions, contraindications or if you are taking any medications. I will then leave the room so you can undress into your underwear and get on the massage table, under the provided sheets and blanket.

During your massage, you will be covered the entire time. I will only pull down the area I am working on at the time.

Please note: Remedial Massage treatment is subject to rebates from your health insurance. Each fund offers different level of coverage, to find out how much you can claim on Remedial Massage per year it is advised to contact them directly.

HICAPS facility is available at the clinic so you can claim your rebate on the spot. If your health insurance is not listed on the HICAPS terminal I can provide you with a written receipt that will allow you to claim your rebate at your convenience directly with your health insurance provider.

The simplest definition of a contraindication is a specific circumstance when the use of certain treatments could be harmful. When a client has a contraindication, the massage therapist can decide whether the service should be altered or refused outright until the contraindicated condition goes away or is addressed by a medical professional.

As massage is generally best done by using some oil or lotion, undressing to your underwear is best. Towels are provided and you will be draped professionally during the massage only exposing the body part your therapist is working on at any time.

Most people report feeling really relaxed and often experience significant relief from aches, pain and stress after a massage session. However some people, especially those who require therapeutic work, experience mild muscle soreness, which may last a day or two.

Once the soreness is gone, they often notice heightened energy levels. You might feel a bit dehydrated after the massage, so I recommend to drink plenty of water following your treatment.

Massage should be considered part of a long-term wellness routine. It is best to get a massage as frequently as possible, even if it is once a month or once every six weeks. All your muscles tightness and pains can never be totally worked out, as you are constantly living, breathing and moving your body. Massage has its greatest benefits over time.

The therapeutic effects of a massage are cumulatives, so the more often you get a massage, the better you feel and the more quickly your body will respond.
